The NAACP (HK on J) 2nd Annual demonstration in Raleigh today was not a march but a movement for change and solidarity. Hundreds of people came together insisting that the poor, the elderly and people of color must not be ignored and that regardless of the color of their skin or the place of their birth, all human beings must have a chance at fairness and dignity.

Many candidates for office were there and welcomed the participation of MAS. All urged for greater
participation from the Muslim community. One of the candidates acknowledged that Islam is often
misrepresented but he sensed that Muslims in the Triangle are becoming more involved and that
this will go a long way in teaching what we really stand for. Janet Cowell, who is running for State
Treasury, believes that the Muslim American Society has a lot to do with this fact.
MAS was acknowledged for the wonderful programs of the
Outreach department. A recipient of our meat distribution came to extend her gratitude. The meat
she received came at a time when there was very little else to feed her two children. Her husband
was killed in an accident a year ago and being a single mother has been a challenge for her. May
Allah guide her to His mercy and empower our abilities to do more good in the community.
Still, our goal must go beyond visibility. A name means nothing if it is not supported by action. Action
Islam. Our participation pushes our real agenda which is the message of spiritual goodness,
humanitarianism, diversity and family values without the lost of religious authenticity given to us by
the Prophet (peace be upon him).
We are able to give and receive rewards at the same time. Imagine that!
Sincerely, it was really an inspiring event.
May Allah instill in our community a strong will, a powerful energy and the steadfastness of faith to
give the gift of His message to others.
Wa alaikum salaam,
